In late February, over 120 people from across the insurance market gathered to celebrate the achievements of the delegates of Digital Minds Embed Cohort 9. The Showcase, hosted by Beazley in their fabulous flex space, was the culmination of nine months of learning and skill development by the delegates.
Delegates represented organisations across the market, including ATA Insurance, Beazley,BMS Group, LIIBA, Markel, Miller, Send Technology, and Verisk.
The energy, curiosity, and conversations throughout the evening reflected what happens when people from across the market come together around shared challenges. And most importantly, the showcase demonstrated what the programme is designed to produce – not just ideas, but practical solutions to real insurance problems.
A nine‑month journey of innovation skills development
Over the course of the programme, the Cohort 9 delegates learned design thinking, moving from problem framing through to testing and prototype development. They applied innovation methods directly to operational challenges across the insurance value chain. At the showcase, three teams presented the solutions they had developed:
Helpee
An AI‑powered innovation accelerator designed to help organisations turn early ideas into structured insight and action, supporting the embedding of innovation capability.
Companion
An AI‑based digital EA that learns how you work and removes friction from repetitive tasks, freeing up time for higher‑value decisions.
Cal & Clio
AI agents designed to support the claims journey 24×7, extending the reach of claims experts and improving responsiveness for customers.
Solutions grounded in real insurance operations
One of the strongest aspects of the evening was how grounded the work was in real insurance operations. The teams demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges faced inside organisations and presented solutions designed to be practical rather than theoretical.
Completing the programme means the cohort now holds EDII’s Certificate in Insurance Innovation and Design Thinking, alongside up to 36 hours of CII‑accredited Continuing Professional Development.
Awarding outstanding achievement
Three delegates’ outstanding achievements were recognised by EDII with Innovation Impact Awards:
Christopher John, Miller Insurance
“Christopher has been a real presence throughout the programme. His insights have lifted discussions time and again – and he’s clearly influenced the thinking of those around him. He brings curiosity and generosity in equal measure, and it’s been impressive to see him step forward and make his mark.”
What’s next?
This isn’t the end of the journey for Cohort 9. Each delegate now joins the Digital Minds Alumni community – a thriving, active alumni network of professionals committed to sharing, challenging, and shaping the future of insurance from within.
They’ll continue to collaborate, lead, and bring the digital mindset to life in their teams and organisations – as both current and future leaders.
